Quality Assurance is espoused as a major function of Makerere University in its continued effort
to sustaining stakeholder confidence in its provisions. The University has ascended to the pinnacle
of its support to the economic development of the country with major transformations in its
curriculum. The university will continue leveraging its talent in the new research-led
dispensation as per its newly approved strategic plan.

There will be an increased proportion of graduate students in the university enrolment to more
than 30% in a ten-year period and to 40% in the next twenty years. The undergraduate degrees
have been reviewed to make then broader in coverage to increase their shelve lives in the
rapidly changing work environment; a number of related programs have been merged in the
process. The offering of sub-disciplines as independent academic programs is largely limited to
postgraduate programs.

The latitude of mechanisms to ensure that the provisions of the university are fit for purpose has
been widened with inclusion of unique innovations like grad-tracking which is improving the
completion of students on graduate programs. The Directorate has developed Latin Squares to
cope with unnecessary duplications in academic programs that were leading to wastage. In
addition, the Directorate validates the Learning Outcomes of course units through Brooms
Taxonomy for a value statement to our learners.

Individual course units and attendant information can be accessed on our courses website: https://courses.mak.ac.ug.
The Directorate of Quality Assurance is very grateful to the University Council and Management for
the continued support in ensuring continual improvement of the university. We are grateful to
the support from the Government of Sweden given to university through the Swedish
International Development Agency (Sida).
